The Gourd family includes vegetables such as the cucumber, melon, squash, and pumpkin. Certain varieties can be grown, dried, and then the resulting hard shell used to make exciting pieces of decorative art.
Lani’s Approach to Gourd Art
Each gourd is unique and presents an exciting and new canvas for the artist to work with. Lani starts from the very beginning by growing and drying all of her own gourds to be used in her artwork. Lani also will purchase gourds from gourd farms. When Lani says “handmade”, she means it! Once the gourds have been through the growing and drying process, each becomes a one-of-a-kind canvas for Lani to work with. Lani takes the time to allow a custom idea to develop that best suits each gourd and then goes to work. The entire process is extremely creative and results in some stunning pieces of art.
